Week Three of Healthy Family Mealtimes Month

Today's fast-paced world makes it difficult to have the whole family sit down together. Connect with your kids and family members by making time to have ANY meal together; breakfast, lunch, dinner or even a snack!

Here are some tips on how to make it more pleasant:
  • Encourage Sharing: tell them about your day and ask them about theirs. "What was the best thing that happened to you today?", "How are you feeling?", "What did you learn at school today?"
  • Listen to everyone
  • Let your children talk about things they are interested in
  • Praise your child: at least once during mealtime.
  • Discourage distractions: turn off the TV and computer. Don't bring phones or tablets to the table.
  • Avoid using mealtime as a time to discipline your child when possible - this helps create a safe and inviting environment for your child.
  • Keep conversations positive so mealtimes are happy times!
